Health Uncare

As I explained in the "About Me" section, I started these posts on FaceBook. I will re-post them here in the order they were originally posted to keep you up to speed as to where I've been and where I'm going. As new ideas form, I will post them here also.

Some of the information may be out of date and you may not understand some of the references because this is a year and a half old.

Republicans and Teabaggers.

You spit at congressmen. You throw bricks through windows, yell “baby killer”, “nigger”, “faggot” and “go back to Mexico, wetback”. You yell “you lie” to the President’s face. Palin says Republicans must “reload” and places cross-hairs on a map targeting Democrats. Calling for a revolution, Bachmann wants everyone in Minnesota to be “armed and dangerous.” Steve King says “there is going to be a reckoning.” There have been death threats to a dozen Democrats who voted ‘yes’ on the bill and the gas line to family member's home was cut and threats were made on members’ children’s lives. And my personal favorite is this Tweet: "ASSASSINATION! America, we survived the Assassinations of Lincoln & Kennedy. We'll surely get over a bullet to Barrack Obama's head. The next American with a Clear Shot should drop Obama like a bad habit. 4get Blacks or his claims to b Black. Turn on Barack Obama."

All because of the health care bill. Or racism? Or fear-mongering? Homophobia? Certainly ignorance. Definitely a touch of just good, old stupidity. In any case, intelligent, calm, rational discourse seems beyond your capability. Hate speech and violence are the weapons of the uneducated. And hate speech and calls to militant action by supposed leaders of community are having an effect. Waving the Gadsden “Don’t Tread On Me” flag and encouraging protesters is dangerous for you. How will you separate yourselves from the mob when something happens to someone because of what you Republican leaders say? Will you still deny culpability? Yes, you will. But we’ll know the truth.

And in your emphatic effort to battle blindly against all things left of center, you’re certainly not above fighting against your own best interest. But of course I know you must be right because you scream so loud and repeat the same thing over and over and just to prove it, you never let anyone else get a word in edgewise.

And you never, ever let facts cloud your judgment.

Here are a few facts about the health care bill. Don’t let them get in the way of your next rally.

-It is not unconstitutional
-It does not take away your freedom
-It does not signal the end of liberty
-It will not cause a downward spiral into communism
-There is no such thing as a “Death Panel”
-It does not call for the euthanasia of the elderly
-It does not cover undocumented immigrants (except in life threatening situations - which has always been the status quo, so nothing changes there)
-It does not pay for abortions (shouldn’t that option be a part of health care, though? but again, religion)
-It is not the complete government takeover of health care (quite the opposite, actually)

Those were just a few rhetorical talking points (unsubstantiated lies) you may have heard from a sly fox pretending to bestow news. Here is what the bill actually contains.

-gives tax credits to small businesses (under 50 employees = 80% of small businesses) to help purchase employee health care
-helps pay prescription drugs for seniors
-companies cannot drop patients that get sick
-cannot prevent children from getting coverage
-free preventative care on Medicare
-no limits on lifetime benefits
-young adults will be covered on their parents’ plan until 26 years of age
-insurance companies are required to pay out 80-85% of what you pay in per year - if they don’t, you get a rebate check
-in 2013 there will be a Medicare payroll increase
-in 2014…
-no insurance company may deny coverage for “pre-existing conditions”
-health exchanges are to open
-all Americans must purchase health insurance or pay a fine (however, the penalty for not paying the fine is nothing - there is no penalty - right, so why have that mandate in the first place? I don’t know - politics)
-in the first 10 years it will save $138 Billion (according to the universally accepted non-partisan Congressional Budget Office)
-in the 10 years after that, it will save another $1.2 Trillion (according to the universally accepted non-partisan CBO)

It’s far from perfect, and there is much I’m not happy with, but it’s a start.

Republicans have already stated that they will run their campaigns on repealing health care reform (and some even happily take credit for things that are in the bill - that they voted against). Read again the above list. They’re fighting against that. Silly, huh? But hey, if the Communist Kenyan Muslim that stole America is for it, then Republicans are against it. Even if they’re for it. Even if it was their idea in the first place.

And now you want to waste American citizens’ tax on a frivolous lawsuit against the United States Government that you know you can’t win. Why? For your own personal, political gain. Not to help the American people. Don’t even try to pretend you’re doing anything for the benefit of the people. Protecting your job comes before everything else you do. At the expense of the citizens that voted you into that job. Every government job should have term limits so at least we'd know that in your last year in office, you'd do something for the people.

And by the way, Reconciliation has been used 22 times since 1981 - 16 times by Republicans. No one ever cared how a bill was passed before, why pretend it matters to you now? Because since you have no real problems with the bill, you attack procedure in a last ditch effort to throw another wrench in the works.
