The Affordable Fear-Mongering Act

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was upheld by the Supreme Court. Republicans are not the smiley happy bumble bees they usually are.

As Andy Borowitz puts it, “Congress passed the law, the President signed it, and the Supreme Court upheld it. So it must be repealed.” – Republican logic

Here are my quick thoughts. Enjoy...

Papiere, Bitte.

Or, in this case, "Documentos, por favor."

The Supreme Court knocked down three of the four provisions before them regarding the Arizona “Papers, Please” SB 1070 bill. The one they left in place was the provision that police could ask to see the identification of anyone AFTER THEY ARE ARRESTED. The racial profiling, pre-arrested, show-me-your-papers part of SB1070 was struck down. No matter what nut-job Republican Governor Jan Brewer and FOX “News” says.

The Left seems to think they scored a big victory, seeing as how 75% of the provisions were struck down. The Right seems to think that they scored a big victory, seeing as how the Supreme Court upheld the provision that police are able to arrest “illegals,” which they already could anyway.

What’s the reality of the situation?

PolitiFiction

Florida is illegally purging voter rolls before a Presidential election in order to allegedly weed out non-citizens (why does this sound familiar?). Republican Governor Rick Scott is suing the Department of Homeland Security so he can gain access to a database to help the state continue with its illegal purge. Florida is violating the National Voter Registration Act and the Voting Rights Act with this illegal purge. The Department of Justice is suing Florida to stop this unlawful conduct. Governor Scott is not stopping. However, the 67 Florida Election Supervisors in charge of purging the rolls have unanimously told Governor Scott to go fuck himself since massive amounts of people on the faulty purge lists have been confirmed US citizens. The Supervisors are no longer continuing the illegal purge; many have reinstated previously purged names. The Supervisors, thirty of whom are Republicans themselves, believe Governor Scott is in violation of Federal law, or at least wish to wait until the court cases between the state of Florida and the Federal Government are resolved.

Not so strangely, as with the fraudulent purge in 2000, the lists overwhelmingly contain registered Democrats and minorities, who statistically vote Democratic.

In honor of this current, blatant (and ever-continuing) voter-suppression of Democrats by Republicans, here is the 'PolitiFiction' post I promised you in my “Fruits of "Illegal" Labor” post.

Fruits of "Illegal" Labor

OK. I’ve been letting you off easy lately. It’s been about six weeks since my last a tête-à-tête post. They’ve been just me blathering on all by myself for far too long. Consider that remedied…

All I did was make a teensy little factual statement (rant). Richard would have NONE of that.

Yes, Richard’s back. He makes more post mortem appearances than Tupac. Post “de-friended” appearances, that is.

Booting undocumented workers from America isn’t nearly as simple an issue as Republicans want. That’s probably why they also boot all facts surrounding the issue as well. Not to mention inventing a few of their own in the process.

Do I still have to warn you that these are lengthy? Names changed bla de blee bloo.
