all over the place after the embassy was attacked. They had even written them
in English (no easy task – imagine you trying to write in Arabic) so we viewers
of the news in America could directly read their heart-felt messages and not
rely on someone else translating it to us.

On a related note, violent, anti-American unrest has erupted
all over the Middle East and North Africa (and beginning to spread all over the
world in Muslim areas) due to a fifteen minute long anti-Muslim handi-cam
quality video that was released on YouTube. At first, it was believed that the American Embassy in Libya was also
attacked because of this video, but has since been determined it was a
pre-planned attack by the terrorist group, Al Qaeda, to coincide with the
September 11 anniversary.
Your first reaction is to say fuck those Arabs, right? Bomb
them all and turn the Middle East into a parking lot. Admittedly, I thought
that way after September 11, 2001. Life, however, is not so simple for a
thinking person. And since then, I’ve decided to use that squidgy, three pound
(1,360 gram) information sponge resting comfortably between my ear-holes that
evolution has so graciously provided me with.
I feel like giving a half-assed history lesson, so STFU and
pay attention, all you trolls out there in the internet wasteland. You have to
understand where these people (yes, they’re average, everyday people, just like
you and me) are coming from.
Our Western culture is very different than Middle Eastern.
Everything they do is approved by their religion-controlled government. They
know that if they are told something, it was approved by their government. So,
when a video made by a douchebag in the United States that insults their
prophet is released, they think is was either created or at the very least
sanctioned by the U.S. government prior to the public seeing it. They have no concept
of free speech. We may understand that the video is stupid, or that burning
books is stupid, or that carrying protest signs that say ‘God Hates Fags’ is
stupid, but it’s free speech. In the Middle Eastern world, only that which is
allowed by the government is shown. So, they think our government is
responsible for a video that insults their prophet. And certain terrorist
leaders, who do understand America’s freedom of speech, ignore it and use this
unrest to foment even more violence against America. The common people know no
better. And that is why they are attacking anything American in their
countries.
