Trayvon Martin Found Guilty!

Sanford, FL, Saturday, July 13 – Knock, knock! Who’s there? Justice. Justice was served today as a guilty verdict was reached in the Trayvon Martin murder case. After a long period of ignoring this case until community activists shamed the justice system into action with an unrelenting publicity campaign, the Trayvon Martin case was brought to trial.

I’m sure my friend wasn’t completely aware of the full story since he was away on vacation when it unfurled in the media. That’s why I tried explaining what was really going on.  But the part that actually ‘bunged’ me up was what his friend said.

Real Reasons

Republicans love to hate on President Obama. He’s further to the right than their lord and savior, Ronald Reagan, but that’s not what’s stuck up their ass about him.

Yeah, it’s because he’s black.

If it wasn’t, then why do they hate all of their own policies immediately after Obama endorses them? Why do they attack policies that were developed and pushed by Republicans for years, decades?

We recently had the ten-year anniversary (March 19, 2003) of being lied into illegally invading and occupying the sovereign nation of Iraq. This invasion occurred for no reason we can yet discern, which resulted in more American deaths than all the terrorist attacks on America combined. We now know (well, some of us always knew) that Bush never went after Osama bin Laden, for the purpose of keeping the fear-drums beating for more war, as Republicans do.

It has become clear to me that the President does not believe in the Constitution. Or at the very least, the Second Amendment. He has said and done many things that would restrict a citizen’s Constitutional right to bear any arms to which they feel entitled.

Time Warp!

While researching things, as I do, I came across two speeches by President Harry S. Truman. One was from when he was running for re-election in 1948. The other was at the end of his second term in 1952 (when he said he wasn’t going to run for a third).

All I have to say is, Holy Fucking Shit. These speeches could have been given by President Obama TODAY with some minor topical updates. Does NOTHING change? Republicans fought for Wall Street banks, corporations and old, regressive, out-of-date policies, and Democrats fought for Labor, civil & economic justice and progressive policies.

I’ve never done this before, but I’m just going to post Truman’s 1952 speech (in full) and an excerpt from the one in 1948.

Health Issues

Last summer, the Supreme Court deemed Obama’s Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to be Constitutional. But that didn’t stop Republican Governors from refusing to implement this Republican-developed plan in their states.

This conversation, I think, is the most reality denying-est one I’ve ever been involved in. No matter what I say or prove or disprove or provide information directly from the source for – it is denied, ignored or laughed at as being crazy. And then dump trucks full of bullshit are emptied out all over the conversation and touted as fragrant petunias.

Gun Rights - More Important Than Life

The fourth in my series of Facebook gun control discussions. The longest. And the last.

For now.

In every discussion I’ve ever had, the anti-regulation side always equates the limiting of magazine capacity or having mandatory trigger locks with ‘taking away my guns.’ And they stick to this argument no matter what. I do not understand how blind devotion (to any topic, really) causes facts to disappear.

No one wants to take away your guns.

I am for the Second Amendment. I believe in the right to own guns. I do not believe everyone should be able to have and do anything they want at any time and any place without any regulations or background checks – basically our current gun ownership system.

And I do not believe that whenever someone goes on a shooting spree, it is the fault of people without guns.

The gun control issue is a perennial topic. The left-wingers believe there should be some common sense limits. The right-wing’s extreme, ignorant, alarmist overreaction is always that ‘Librulz want to take away all law abiding citizens’ guns then only criminals will have them how are we supposed to stop a tyrannical government freedom liberty don’t tread on me!’

Needless to say, I get into this fantastically stupid argument all the time.

This weekend, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend – the mother of his three-month-old daughter – then committed suicide.

This event, as well as the two presidential candidates never fucking even fake coughing the word ‘gun’ during the entire debate season (much like the climate change issue), has inspired me to post a series of my conversations on the issue. Several other gun-related musings have been posted in this blog already. And I’m positive there will be more in the future.

Attic Clean-Out

Disagreeing to Agree

This one is fucked up. In other words, an average encounter with a Republican.

Richard, my good (ex)buddy, instinctively disagreed with my post. When I re-explained my point, he understood - and agreed.

However, like a dutiful member of the GOP, he continued his search for something that we must disagree over. Somehow, booing gay soldiers and climate change are related topics.

It’s like when you first saw “From Dusk Till Dawn."  You were happily enjoying your bank-robbers-escaping-the-law flick, when half way through, it turned into a vampire movie.

Yeah. This is just like that. Only four times as exciting. Trust me. Maybe.

The climate change aspects covered in my last post are largely different from the ones coming up next, so don’t worry about repetition. This is a whole new gravy boat full of dunce-tastic blabber-speak.

I suppose I’m on a climate change kick because we just had a presidential election season and I’m a little pissed that neither candidate mentioned the subject – even as one walked through the aftermath of the most devastating storm to hit the Northeast in memory, which was fuelled by climate change and the other pretended to care about its victims. That’s right, fuck you, Shitt Smarmy, or whatever your name was.
